Is it a documentary or a biopic? The outspoken and provocative movie Kneecap falls somewhere in between. Artists Móglaí Bap, Mo Chara and DJ Próvai play themselves. But is it all based on facts? And does it matter?
Kneecap: Energetic biopic about a hiphoptrio from Belfast

Director Peppiatt debut film is about the origin story of this successful Irish rapgroup that has since played big festivals like Coachella, Glastonbury and Sziget.
The three lads are born and raised in Northern Ireland, a region known for mainly one thing: The Troubles, a violent conflict. The peace treaty may have been signed years decades ago, in capital Belfast you still see the remnants of the conflict.
The ‘peace wall’ still divides the Catholic and Protestant neighbourhoods. What’s it like to grow up here? In the movie Kneecap you get a glimpse into why Kneecap raps specifically in Gaelic and is the voice of a new rebellious generation that embraces their language.
Expect humor, hip-hop, and drugs. Kneecap won a BAFTA Award, among others, and was awarded the audience prize at the Sundance Film Festival. The film is repeatedly named the Irish answer to Trainspotting.
