Collaboration Aveleijn & Concordia
Aveleijn
#justParticipate!
People with disabilities can be of great value to our society – often much more than we think. Their creativity and unique perspectives enrich the world around us. When they are given the chance to showcase their talents, it repeatedly shows how valuable it is to ‘just participate’. Activities that visibly foster connections (especially between people with and without disabilities) are therefore of great importance.

The connection arises in encounters. ‘Art is particularly suitable for facilitating encounters. Among other things, because you do not need explicit knowledge or a certain cognitive level to be affected by art. The limitation falls away here,’ says Ellen van Heek, Communication and Social Inclusion Manager at Aveleijn.
Culture is an essential part of well-being and health. Inclusion only truly takes on meaning when we create culture together, meet each other, and inspire one another.
To support that idea, since September 2024, a combination officer Aveleijn–Concordia has been active at Concordia. This officer has three important goals:
- Expanding the cultural offerings for people with disabilities.
- Stimulating active engagement in the arts within the target groups of Aveleijn, so they become familiar with various forms of art and culture.
- Promoting equal and meaningful contact between people with and without disabilities.

Golden Prokkel
This collaboration has already yielded beautiful results. In 2025, Aveleijn and Concordia jointly received the Golden Prokkel (in the category of imaging and meaning), a national award for projects that inspiringly bring together people with and without disabilities.
Together, we make visible what is possible when everyone gets the chance to participate and contribute to art and culture.
