Culture Education Enschede

The primary education sector, cultural institutions, teacher training programs, and the municipality of Enschede collaborate to provide all children in all primary schools with high-quality cultural education. They do this under the name Culture Education Enschede: the link between education, the cultural field, and the funders.

To firmly establish cultural education in primary education, there is intensive collaboration between cultural institutions and schools, the expertise of teachers is promoted, and various cultural learning pathways have been developed. This way, students are exposed to visual arts, dance, drama, heritage, literature, media arts, and music throughout their entire primary school years. They learn to use creative skills to solve problems and find answers.

One of the components of what Culture Education Enschede does is managing and maintaining the online platform Culture Menu. This provides an overview of the art and cultural offerings from various providers within Enschede. Teachers book activities and workshops for every group within the school through this platform. In addition, we offer the course Internal Culture Coordinator for teachers. This course provides practical tools, skills, and substantive knowledge to optimally shape, stimulate, and ensure cultural education at school.

We are proud that all primary schools in Enschede, including specialized education, participate in the BASIS program. During this program, schools are supported by an advisor in developing a defined cultural education policy at the school level. The cultural policy plan is the basis on which the school, together with the advisor, makes informed choices from the Culture Menu each school year. When a school wants to take a step further, it can choose the PLUS track, which offers a broader range of possibilities.
