One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest shows how one man’s struggle against a ruthless system can evolve into a gripping indictment of authority and conformism. To escape forced labor, the rebellious R.P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson) declares himself insane. Within the walls of a psychiatric institution, he faces a new, far more fundamental confrontation. Thwarted by the dictatorial Nurse Ratched, racial provocateur McMurphy then incites the patients to revolt.
This classic from director Miloš Forman (Amadeus) is based on Ken Kesey’s influential novel of the same name and became a cornerstone of American cinema of the 1970s. The film won the five major Oscars: Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Screenplay.
To celebrate its 50th anniversary, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest returns to the big screen in a brand-new 4K restoration.
