Agatha's Almanac is a loving portrait of ninety-year-old Agatha by her niece, Canadian artist Amalie Atkins. Calmly, Agatha works in her garden where she sows and harvests in accordance with the rhythm of the seasons.
Agatha Bock is ninety and still lives on the remote family farm in Manitoba, Canada. Her days are filled with the expansive gardens surrounding her home, where potatoes, strawberries, melons, beans, and herbs grow in carefully tended beds. Some seeds have been passed down for generations, forming a tangible connection with the ancestors who cultivated this land for her. Amidst all the greenery, Agatha shares with disarming down-to-earth honesty about her life. About the quilts she makes, about the rhythm of the seasons, about the practical ingenuity she has built up over the years.
Agatha's Almanac is the first feature-length documentary by multidisciplinary artist Amalie Atkins, Agatha’s niece. The film shows how valuable a life can be that does not revolve around speed or consumption, but around attention, craftsmanship, and respect for what already exists. In this way, the film reminds us of the deep meaning found in the simple and careful life, provided we take the time to see it.
