By having residents capture their own neighborhoods, not only a unique image of the city is created, but also a space for connection, understanding, and pride. Guided by professional photographer Gill Bollegraf, participants explore their neighborhoods through their own eyes. What is seen, captured, and shared differs from person to person. Each photo carries a personal perspective and demonstrates how a single place can harbor many stories. Together, the images form a layered and intimate portrait of the neighborhood, seen through the eyes of its residents.
During this exhibition, all districts of Enschede are represented: North, South, East, West, and the City Center. In addition to its artistic purpose, Art Next Door has also contributed to the well-being of neighborhood residents. For participants, the project offered a space to escape isolation and loneliness, find peace, and recover from stress or burnout.
Through the Kunst & Welzijn (Art & Wellbeing) partnership, we are working on Art Next Door: a city-wide photography project in which residents of Enschede capture their living environment. After successful collaborations with Aveleijn, Alifa, Incluzio, Concordia, and the municipality of Enschede, we proudly present this photo exhibition with Art Next Door, bringing together all the city districts.
