Unplugging and recharging in the middle of a busy city was already possible at Concordia exhibitions. Now this is becoming even clearer with a permanent spot: Batterij!
Gill Bollegraf, initiator, mindfulness trainer, and coach, often noticed that the businesses and organizations in the city center frequented lacked a space where employees or students could retreat for a moment. This gave her the idea to create a central location in the city center where people could walk in and find peace and quiet. Gill received a city check from the Municipality of Enschede for this idea to realize this place, at and with Concordia.
Batterij means not being outwardly focused for a moment, no overload of stimuli, but noticing how you are doing again. Giving your head space, letting your body relax. Unloading. Stepping out of the hustle and bustle of the day, making time for yourself and recharging.
Art can do the same thing: unwind and recharge at the same time. It therefore seemed a logical choice to combine the Battery with works of art, or in this case, to place it in Concordia's art space.
You can listen to meditations at fixed locations in the exhibitions. In addition, every quarter on Friday afternoons from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., Gill organizes a mini-event based on awareness, attention, and meditation: meditating & dancing, a walk, talk & meditate tour through the current exhibition, a talk by an inspirer, and more.
