Suffering, vulnerability, and sadness in male art, compiled by Francis Boeske with texts by Twan Janssen.

BOYS DON’T CRY - At least, that’s the image that exists. This exhibition aims to prove the opposite, showing what happens when we let go of that idea.

Boys don't Cry is a group exhibition about male vulnerability, sadness, and suffering in the work of male artists. Less macho energy, more doubt, perhaps more questions than ready-made answers. A spectrum of emotions is addressed through personal texts accompanying the work of sixteen visual artists: Shame, Melancholy, Mourning, Loss, but also Love and Hope. These texts are a call for an open dialogue about art. The texts show that even the most difficult work of art can be very personal and that you can give it your own meaning.

The festive opening was on Saturday, June 29, and on July 14, visual arts programmer Petra Boonstra gave a guided tour of the works.
