In 1998, Julian van Aalderen and Sjors Trimbach carried two Commodore Amiga computers and a video mixer from AKI to the Catacombs of Basic Grooves; The C-Men VJs were born.
Their work has been shown at Basic Grooves, Club Mazzo, Planetart, Paradiso, 013, Doornroosje, Effenaar, and festivals such as Lowlands, Gogbot, Blip, and Micromusic. They previously exhibited at De Gele Rijder Arnhem, Extrapool Nijmegen, Niet de Kunstvlaai Amsterdam, Club.nl Dubrovnik, and the Busan Biennale in South Korea.
After five years, Sjors quit, and for the past 20 years Julian has traveled solo around the world to festivals and exhibitions in cities including Moscow, Stockholm, Tokyo, Los Angeles, and Melbourne. Older and balder, they now present their low-res hardcore work in a self-made remix of animations, large prints, analog installations, designer toys, and t-shirts. Still without intent, still without a message, and if there is a message, it is: DON’T BELIEVE IN US (let us believe in you).
