  • This evening, Expo by Night is hosted by the artist initiative Gekko & Kat, also known as Sophia and Nadine. They organize an artful murder mystery, there is live music, a workshop, and speed tours through the exhibitions.

“Gekko & Kat wants to bring more curiosity and playfulness into everyday life. They do this through art-related events and exhibitions, connecting people and trying to get them out of their comfort zone.

During Concordia Expo by Night, Gekko & Kat will host a murder mystery that you can participate in...! You will be assigned a character, slip into your role (and outfit?!) and try to find clues for the mystery in the exhibited art, while a charming musician waltzes us through the night.”

The show starts at 19:30 with an introduction, explanation, and purpose. The evening continues, and everyone can freely wander around; the audience does not have to work on the mystery the whole time but has all the time to search for clues and piece together their story. The story will be revealed at 21:30!

Want to join? You can sign up in advance, which will provide you with a character with a personality trait and the opportunity to dress up according to the theme (highly recommended!). Registration on the night itself is possible, provided there are still spots left, in which case we can still assign them a character with a personality trait. But dressing up will unfortunately not be possible then ;) Sign up here!

    Workshop Nela Ervaar
Nela Ervaar will give a workshop during EbN amidst her work in ‘idem et idem’, focused on creating small sculptural beings using quick, intuitive techniques. Participants will learn from Nela how to build body-like shapes from aluminum foil by cutting, folding, and shaping, resulting in unexpected figures.

    Tours
During Expo by Night, we will take you on speed tours through the exhibitions. Petra (in Dutch) and Alex (in English) will give you ins and outs about the exhibitions, the artists, and the ideas behind the works. In just 15 minutes, you will have enough inspiration and insights to discover even more in the artworks.

In the city expo, participants and their guides will be present to tell you more about their special project.

You can also take a leisurely look at our ongoing exhibitions this evening: AKI Idem et Idem, On Being Elsewhere, and the City Expo from Aveleijn.

    Who are Gekko & Kat

    Sophia Varekamp
Sophia Varekamp is a cool person. She is a half-American, half-Dutch artist/designer who works with various media, from risotto and screen printing to wood, ceramics, and even theater! Her focus within art lies on community, connection, and play! She creates environments for safe, fun, and open communication, as these small conversations and interactions are essential for creating a more caring and thoughtful world.

    Nadine Klok
Once upon a time, there was an artist named Nadine Klok, who immersed herself intensively in human relationships: the relationship between humans and their environment, themselves and others. This forms the basis of her worldview, which naturally seeps into her work. A mix of collaborations and personal projects suits her well. Her work primarily manifests itself in the form of stories. By telling these stories, she finds it important to offer both herself and others new perspectives. One of her favorite ways is to incorporate the curiosity, playfulness, and wonder that a child often possesses into her work. Nadine can learn a lot from this.
