The exhibition Grenzeloos presents an overview of both iconic and new work by four pioneering Dutch artists.
Ronald de Bloeme, William Engelen, Jeroen Jacobs, and Maarten Janssen have made a strong mark in Berlin over the past decades, their work deeply inspired by their new Heimat. Each artist moved to Berlin at a different time, lives in a different part of the city, and creates highly diverse work. Yet they share one crucial element: their art pushes boundaries and is unmistakably influenced by the city.
For this exhibition, an iconic piece by each artist is shown alongside a new work created specifically for Grenzeloos.
Since 2005, guest curator Gerard Marlet has published the Atlas voor Gemeenten (Atlas of Municipalities), in which Dutch cities are compared across various themes. The 2019 Atlas is linked to the exhibition Grenzeloos by focusing on the important and timely question of how art and culture can contribute to the renaissance of border regions.
