Every year we organize an exhibition especially for children aged 4 to 12. For the second time now, we are receiving help from the Superrrkunstkids team, a group of children who are not afraid to share their opinions and who love coming up with and creating new things.
Anna, Hiewa, Guus, and Marieke are the Superrrkunstkids who contribute ideas about the theme Ik. Who am I, what do I like, how do I see myself in the world, and is there anyone who is exactly like me? How do artists actually think about this—are they concerned with their own ik and do they only create what they themselves like, or do they also reflect on another ik and look at things from a different perspective?
In this exhibition you will find answers. Not because the Superrrkunstkids or the artists give them to you, but because they challenge you to reflect on these questions through the artworks and by creating your own work in the studio.
With work by Sanne van den Elzen, Joris Verleg, Jelle van Assem, Shantell Martin, Jurjen Galema, Arie Versluis & Ellie Uyttenbroek, Mirthe Dokter, Esmay Groot Koerkamp, and Dorotha Grabkowska, with the collaboration of Go Short.
Hiewa’s Ik ben ik story
"Hi, I am Hiewa, a 10 year old girl. Not exactly the tallest in the class, I have black hair full of curls and also freckles. I don’t really like them but my mother always says ‘be proud of them’. I was walking through the garden and thought to myself: 'Later I want to be famous like Annie M.G. Schmidt or Columbus or maybe become a heroine. But what if I become like princess Amalia? Deep down I want to remain myself. Playing outside, running through the rain, sitting on the swing and floating through space, it just feels so good to be myself. I want to go from dreaming to doing! YES maybe I will become someone with a big name later but for now I want to be a child, enjoy my life and of course the freckles on my face.
IK BEN IK! And that is why I took part in this fun Superrrkunstkids project with the theme Ik ben ik. Here you can share your own opinion and nothing is required! Just being creative and letting your own feelings come alive in art. Making self portraits of the other children and choosing paintings for the Expo. In short, how amazing is it to just be yourself."
