  • Disturbing documentary about the halting of transgender care in the Trump era.

In this impressive documentary, director Gianna Toboni follows three families in USA states where gender-affirming care is banned, over the course of a year, who face an impossible choice: stay and risk the health and safety of their transgender children, or move and completely upheave their lives. Through an intimate look at their daily struggles, we see the human toll of politically motivated bans that stand in stark contrast to the medical consensus of leading healthcare organizations in America.

The documentary gives a voice to pioneers in the trans community and to civil rights experts who place this historical moment in perspective and show how these laws are part of a broader strategy that has targeted diverse marginalized communities for generations. This timely documentary is also an essential historical account of trauma and resilience, with its greatest strength lying in the portrayal of the unwavering love these families demonstrate despite systemic opposition.
