In the series Koppelkunst, the residents of Enschede take on the role of commissioners for an artist or artist duo. Their stories, interests, and ideas form the foundation of an exhibition.
This time, we paired the open student association AEGEE Enschede with artist Ole Nieling.
Unfortunately, Ole was born just too late to discover the Earth and too early to explore the universe. But he was born just in time to study humanity and its peculiarities.
“As an artist, I am fascinated by being human: how I myself am human, and how others deal with that humanity. Where does it begin, and where does it end? How far have we strayed from nature? Or are we, at our core, nothing more than curious animals racing through the concrete jungle in suits and lounging on the couch in sweatpants?”
With the members of student association AEGEE as his commissioners, Ole is embarking on a collaboration. He is exploring the essence of student association life, using the culture and identity of AEGEE as his blueprint. The first encounter between the association and the artist was fruitful and, fittingly, ended at the bar.
