Both institutions are currently showing work by Broersen & Lukács: Concordia as part of the group exhibition Landscape, Disrupted, and at Rijksmuseum Twenthe, their work is part of the exhibition GOGBOT X RMT Nowhere but Nature.
About Broersen & Lukács
Broersen & Lukács' work consists of films, installations, and performances in which they explore the complex relationship between culture and nature. They are specifically interested in the way nature and the landscape are represented and appropriated. They also reflect on the workings of media and technology, and their influence on the way stories are told.
Rijksmuseum Twenthe is showing the video Establishing Eden from 2016. In it, the camera pans across the sublime mountain landscapes of New Zealand, which continually converge and disintegrate. The camerawork is inspired by films like Lord of the Rings, in which the landscape itself becomes the protagonist through the establishing shot. By disintegrating the images, Broersen & Lukács aim to demonstrate that these representations of nature are merely human constructs.
Concordia features the video "I Wan’na Be Like You" from 2024. In it, Broersen & Lukács explores the colonial image of "the jungle" as empty land. Botanical gardens in European cities are transformed into a virtual jungle using digital techniques. A hybrid avatar dances to a reinterpretation of Disney's "The Jungle Book," after which Black Harmony takes over with the polyphonic chant "Na Mi."
The exhibition "Landscape, Disrupted" at Concordia runs until January 4, 2026. The exhibition "GOGBOT X RMT. Nowhere but Nature" runs until February 1, 2026.
