Algers, 1938. Meursault, a quiet and unassuming man in his early thirties, attends his mother’s funeral without shedding a tear. The next day, he begins an affair with his coworker Marie and quickly returns to his daily routine. But his ordinary life is disrupted by his neighbor, Raymond Sintès, who draws Meursault into his shady dealings. Then, on a scorching hot day, a fateful event occurs on the beach… When Meursault appears in court, he seems to be judged not so much for his actions, but for his emotionless demeanor. Can a man be sentenced to death for not crying at his mother’s funeral?
