Screening in collaboration with GOGBOT-festival.
Would you like to see how rebellion functions – or doesn't – as propaganda? This 2016 documentary film shows how the former Yugoslavian cult band Laibach became the first foreign rock group ever to perform in North Korea on Liberation Day.
In the 1980 Laibach were known for their bold confrontational style, being provocative and aesthetically astounding. In this documentary, under the brilliant guidance of performance artist Morten Traavik, who is also the film's director, alongside Ugis Olte, they are back.
Expect a wild clash of ideologies and cultural expressions and unwritten rules. While the band struggles to get their songs past the censors, propaganda loudspeakers are set up at the border between the two Koreas and a countdown to war is announced. Gradually, positions begin to shift, raising the question of who is part of whose propaganda machine.
