Lola Runs

Existential German action thriller by director Tom Tykwer as part of our monthly Philofilm, introduced and discussed by Sofie Wierda.

Manni (Bleibtreu) loses a hundred thousand Marks in smuggled money that he was supposed to hand over to dangerous people and calls his girlfriend Lola (Potente) in a panic. To save Manni's neck, Lola then runs through the streets of Berlin to come up with the sum. With only 20 minutes on the clock, director Tom Tykwer shows how infinitely much can change in that short time. Coincidence seems to dictate life, Tykwer seems to want to say, but a strong force like Love can indeed have an influence.

Director Tykwer made the world thrill with excitement with his hyper-energetic Lola Runs, featuring his athletic, red-haired heroine, multiple alternative storylines, a hard techno beat - produced by Tykwer himself - and all possible camera and editing effects.
