Due to the heatwave, we will be closed for the next couple of days at the Langestraat after 15:00. All films at the Oude Markt will go ahead as planned; it is wonderfully cool there!

Once a month, we show an open-air movie in the courtyard of Craft District Enschede! This year we are going on a city trip; on July 8, we will depart from Amsterdam and, via Tokyo, New York, and Paris, end in Venice on September 1. So even for those staying at home, there is plenty of the world to see this year!
The next stop - just under thirteen hours of flying - brings us to the East River and Queensborough Bridge in New York for Woody Allen's Manhattan. Start time: 15 minutes after sunset.
The 42-year-old TV writer Isaac (Woody Allen) struggles with his career, his failed marriage, and his complicated love life. While he is in a relationship with the much younger Tracy (Mariel Hemingway), he becomes increasingly fascinated by Mary (Diane Keaton), the girlfriend of his best friend. With sharp dialogues, touching moments, and a perfect balance between humor and melancholy, Manhattan is regarded as one of Allen's greatest classics and a timeless love song to ‘The Big Apple’.
“Chapter 1:
He adored New York City, he idolized it all out of proportion. No – make that, he romanticized it all out of proportion. To him, no matter what the season was, this was still a town that existed in black-and-white and pulsated to the great tunes of George Gershwin
.… … …
New York was his town, and it always would be.”
(Woody Allen)
With Manhattan (1979), Woody Allen delivered one of the most beloved films of his career and an unforgettable tribute to New York. For the first time, he filmed in widescreen, allowing the city to shine in beautiful black-and-white. The vibrant energy of Manhattan serves as the backdrop for a witty, romantic, and sometimes painful quest for love, friendship, and meaning.
