Calcutta, India, 1948. Mother Superior Teresa anxiously awaits a letter from the Vatican that will finally grant her permission to establish her own order. A calling she received from God, but also a radical desire for a sister. However, the tireless and ambitious Teresa does not let herself be deterred and prepares everything for her possible departure. But when her intended successor confides a big secret to her, both Teresa’s mission and their friendship are put to the test.

The visually rich film, featuring powerful performances from both Noomi Rapace and Sylvia Hoeks, premiered Mother at the Venice Film Festival.
