  • The feature film a turning point in the life of Mother Teresa.
Calcutta, India, 1948. Mother Superior Teresa anxiously awaits a letter from the Vatican that will finally grant her permission to establish her own order. A calling she received from God, but also a radical desire for a sister. However, the tireless and ambitious Teresa does not let herself be deterred and prepares everything for her possible departure. But when her intended successor confides a big secret to her, both Teresa’s mission and their friendship are put to the test.

A decisive week in the life of Mother Teresa before she became world-famous: Mother is an intense character study of the woman behind the myth. Director Teona Strugar Mitevska presents a bold and human perspective on this iconic figure by portraying her as a driven woman of flesh and blood who struggles with power and her ideals. The result is a rebellious biopic about autonomy, identity, and sisterhood. The visually rich film, featuring powerful performances from both Noomi Rapace and Sylvia Hoeks, premiered Mother at the Venice Film Festival.
