"OUT" follows the journey of Tom and Ajani, two young queer men who leave behind the restrictive life of a small Dutch village for the promising city of Amsterdam. In this city, they hope not only to fulfill their dream of becoming filmmakers, but also to find a community that accepts them for who they are.
In Amsterdam's colorful queer scene, Tom and Ajani find both friendship and complex challenges. Their relationship is tested by the vibrant nightlife, from playful evenings of "Never Have I Ever" to limousine rides through the city and introspective moments in the local sauna. These experiences drive them toward profound self-reflection.
"OUT" is more than a story about finding yourself; it's an intimate look at the struggle for self-acceptance against the backdrop of a new environment. As they grapple with the question "Who am I, and where do I belong?", Tom and Ajani discover whether the city brings them closer together or drives them apart. This film offers a reflection on love, identity, and the search for one's own place in the world.
PLEASE NOTE: admission to the film is free, but you do need to book a free ticket via the website in order to attend.
This film was programmed by Saxion's Diversity Office and Th!nk with Pride as part of the Pride Summer Experience. During the Pride Summer Experience, queer students from across Europe work on preparing for their future position in the job market. Afterwards, they travel to WorldPride Amsterdam. "Research shows that 40 percent of students who are out during their studies go back into the closet during their first work experience," says project leader Marco Strijks. "That's why the Pride Summer Experience is so important!"
