Queer Shorts Competition

During the Regenboogdagen, the Roze Filmfestival and Concordia present a Queer Shorts Competition. The most enjoyable entries will be screened on Sunday afternoon, October 4, at Concordia. Be surprised by regional and national talent, meet the creators for a Q&A, and celebrate the rainbow days with us.

If I'm with you (2026 - 3.44) Debut film by Mirte van de Griek and Heru Kuiper for the Pink Film Festival Enschede

Walk Me Home (2024, Maart Rees - 11:00 ) Raven and Moos meet at a party and take a mutual friend home who is just a bit too drunk. They wander through the streets of Utrecht, taking each other home back and forth, not wanting the night to end. 

Maart Rees is a budding filmmaker & film student at HKU. He debuted before graduating with my films ‘I thought I knew you’ (2023) and ‘Walk Me Home‘ (2024) at the Queer Film Festival Utrecht, which are still being shown at other international festivals including in Potsdam and Marseille. Maart’s work mainly focuses on queer and social themes, striving for representation and authenticity in each project.

Wyd? (2023, Max Kutschenreuter - 13:32)  "An expression used on dating apps to convey a minimal level of interest, but which is usually ignored."

Looking for something other than a casual sex date, Richie responds to a peculiar request from a stoic bodybuilder via Grindr. But as soon as Richie arrives, the date turns into an awkward and tense exchange of spoken and unspoken desires between the two, culminating in an unusual yet exhilarating activity. Within the relative anonymity of online encounters, the date becomes a quirky, tender exploration of masculinity in all its vulnerable absurdity.

Max Kutschenreuter (he/him) is a Dutch film director, researcher, artist, and writer whose practice unfolds between Berlin and Amsterdam. He graduated with a BA from the Rietveld Academy (2014), after making two short films (Expoterygota & Icarus), and after 8 years in Berlin, he graduated in 2025 with a Master of Film from the Amsterdam Film Academy. His research currently focuses on remembering and documenting the spaces where queer intimacy flourishes.

COMPULSION (2025, Jarne Hagelaar -  21:30) 24-year-old Lola dreams of making her greatest passion, dance, her profession. She is a well-known figure in the Dutch ballroom community and can often be found in the queer nightlife scene. But Lola is also increasingly struggling with a growing alcohol and drug problem that slowly takes over her life. Through her late-night adventures, she loses the people around her, her health deteriorates day by day, and she suffers more frequently from anxiety and panic attacks. Now that her work, passion, and well-being are suffering from her lifestyle, Lola unknowingly stands at a crossroads: will she find the strength to choose her health and ambition, or will she be further swept into the destructive world of drugs and escapism?

Jarne Hagelaar is a filmmaker, director, and screenwriter. His films with personal stories focus on interpersonal relationships and subjects that have taboos, such as addiction within the transgender community and body dysmorphia among gay men.

QUEER ENOUGH (2025, Annemarije Rus -29:54)  

'Am I queer (enough)?' That question is one many LGBTQIA+ individuals ask themselves regularly. In this short documentary, three queer individuals explore their internalized prejudices about being queer in absurdistic scenes inspired by ‘expectation vs reality’ memes. By testing their expectations of a queer gym against reality, they ultimately find their place in the queer community.

Annemarije Rus is a queer filmmaker. In 2019, she completed her Master's in Visual Anthropology at the UvA. She makes films about how people try to find their place in the world, such as the documentary Skew (2024) about the housing crisis and earlier work on feminist activism. Online (meme) culture is a recurring theme in her work.
