Who are the artists of Enschede, what do they do, and what connection do they have with the city? Every year, Concordia highlights one of the artist initiatives or studio associations in Enschede. This year it is the turn of the Robson ateliers on Bleekerstraat.
In this series of exhibitions, Concordia brings together artists, art, and the city’s residents. Because who exactly are the artists of Enschede, what do they create, what connects them to the city, and what do they think about, for example, current trends in contemporary visual art?
This year, the focus is on the artists of the Robson ateliers, a cultural platform for art and sustainability. It was founded out of the need for a place where art can be exhibited and experienced in the broadest sense of the word, with an emphasis on connection through creativity and innovation.
With work by: Miguel Dominquez, Madelon Pels, Bas van der Linde, Annelien Dam, Iris Helene Jansen, Irene Bebseler, Mark van Loon, Ray Andreas, Liezette Gerrits, Teun Velthuis, Esther Te Brake, Reina de Vries, Wouter Kops, Karin Vaneker, and Marloes Staal.
Since February 2014, the artists have been based in the former Robson pajama factory, a remnant of Enschede’s textile past. In this old factory, more than 30 artists and creative companies, a workshop, a large exhibition space, and an ecological vegetable garden connected to the café are located.
Coffee Grounds
Throwing away coffee grounds is a shame! Want to learn more about sustainable uses for coffee grounds? Karin Vaneker makes worm compost and soap with them. During the exhibition, every Saturday afternoon coffee (and coffee grounds) were available at Concordia, and Karin shared more about the sustainable reuse of coffee grounds. Worried about dirty hands? Don’t worry, because at Concordia you could also wash your hands with the coffee ground soap that Karin made.
