The story follows the young Francis, who recounts his encounter with the mysterious Dr. Caligari. This devilish physician seems responsible for a series of murders but evades the police by having his crimes committed by a hypnotized sleepwalker.
Friday night special: film and live show The Nijmegen band Oh Hazar curates a special screening of the legendary film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) on Friday evening, April 17. This groundbreaking classic by director Robert Wiene is still regarded as one of the absolute highlights of German expressionism. Fantastic, bizarre sets and strange shadows create a hypnotic world where reality and madness seamlessly blend into one another.
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is one of the most influential films in expressionist cinema and a major inspiration for Oh Hazar's live show Cinema Obscur. On Friday, April 17, this special performance will take place at Concordia, immediately following the film screening. It is the very first performance of the show, in which film and live music come together in a unique experience.
Cinema Obscur is part of the Booster Festival and will also be performed on Saturday, April 18, at Concordia. On this day, the show is part of the festival program, and there is no film screening beforehand.
The live show Cinema Obscur is free to access with a ticket. These tickets can be picked up at the box office on the days of the show. Be on time, as once it's full, it's full!
