“I aim to move from ambiguity to clarity, allowing the work to grow toward its meaning.”

Wineke Gartz creates multimedia installations that make the visitor lose themselves.

Just as your eye can wander across a landscape painting, grasping something in the lower left, drifting to the right, and being carried to every corner of the painting, so too can you move literally and with your whole body through her installations. Using still and moving images alongside immobile objects, Wineke composes arrangements of her films, drawings, texts, and photos, drawing from both recent and earlier parts of her ever-growing archive. As you move through her work, new sightlines, viewpoints, perspectives, and frames continuously emerge. The resulting compositions create a wandering movement not only for the eye but for the entire body.

At Concordia, Wineke is creating a site-specific installation, a spatial work that interacts with the architectural environment of the space. She will work on-site for two weeks on the first-floor space, shaping it to her vision. You are warmly invited to the opening (see the link at the bottom of the text), and also to visit during the installation process to see the work as it develops.
