Wanda, by the early deceased actor and filmmaker Barbara Loden, movingly highlights the fate of a drifting divorced mother. She is phenomenally portrayed by Loden, who also wrote the screenplay and directed. Wanda would remain Loden's first and last feature film. The film was well received at festivals and made an impression as a portrait of a woman who has little choice in her life, considers herself voiceless, and continuously falls into the hands of the wrong men, including a bank robber.
In 2010, the film was restored (from the original 16mm copy and the 35mm distribution copy) and came into the spotlight as a symbol of American feminist cinema, created by a woman who deserved as much attention as the groundbreaking male creators of the new Hollywood. The restoration was done by the UCLA Film & Television Archive, with support from Gucci and The Film Foundation.
